This week Rina read
This week, Rina has been reading Sisters in Yellow by Mieko Kawakami.
The story follows a young girl who drops out of high school to start a bar with a friend of her mother’s. I can’t stop reading. It’s like a crime/drama but with a calmness to it. I had previously read Breasts and Eggs by her and loved it and this is another hit!
This week Madhvi read
This week, Madhvi finally got round to reading investigative journalist Ronan Farrow’s piece on Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI and ChatGPT. Ronan Farrow is a great journalist. He broke the Harvey Weinstein story, fuelling the #MeToo movement.
This is a long and in-depth piece and I was happy to have my view that AI is so over-hypped validated. Many people are suffering from water scaricity as a direct result of this tech, so please be mindful how much you use it. Here is a link to the article that bypasses the paywall for those of you who do not subscribe to The New Yorker.
This week’s inspiration
This week’s inspiration is Berlin’s woman-owned independent bookshop Ivallan’, who hosted our last book club.
This second hand bookshop is crammed with goodies, from cat tarot cards to erotica, sci-fi, literary fiction and poetry — we all went home with something!
If you are a woman in Berlin and you want to join our book club, message us msinformed.podcast@gmail.com
