This week’s distraction
This week’s distraction is more reading on Britney! The Guardian recently released an amazing article examining how female pop stars struggle to tell their stories. Lamenting that Britney is just another female pop star stuck in a man-made fantasy, journalist Grace raises the questions that so much has been said over the last year about Britney and yet we still haven’t heard from Britney herself. Read it in full here.
This week Madhvi has been watching
The film I Care a Lot on Netflix. Rina recommended it on this week’s podcast, as it’s reminiscent of the Britney documentary. It’s a dramatic, fun watch, and deals with issues of guardianship, exploitation and capitalism. Plus Rosamund Pike’s styling is great.
This week Rina has been listening to
This week Rina started reading ‘Burnt Sugar’ By Avni Doshi. This is a love story and a story about betrayal — but not between lovers. It’s about mother-daughter relationship. The weather seems to be nicer in Berlin today. So why not pick up a copy at your local book store and enjoy it in the park.
This week’s inspiration
This week’s inspiration is EL BOUM! EL BOUM is Jasmina El Bouamraoui a German- Moroccan illustrator working as a one-person creative studio in Berlin. Inspired by queer aesthetics and the city’s unconventional spirit they create fun characters in eye-catching colours.
Not drawn to the usual, they invite the viewer to question stereotypes of all kinds. Their illustrations play within a bright and bold color range, blocky shapes, and textures.
Find them on Instagram here! Check out their website here and if you want to purchase some of their work you can here!
