This week’s distraction
This week’s distraction is the open mic poetry evening at Vagabund Brauerei in Wedding taking place from 7 - 10 PM on Monday October 21st.
Madhvi will be reading her latest work on the brewery floor (above) from 7.30 - 8PM, so come along and say hi. After that, it will be the regular open mic. No need to sign up, just come along.
If you’re interested in writing, Madhvi will be back the following evening to run a workshop featuring live music in the same space. You do need to sign up to that, because spots are limited. Find out more and sign up for the workshop here.
This week Madhvi made
This week Madhvi made a spoken word EP!
Okay, I didn’t make it just this week, and I didn’t make it alone. This was a labour of love between me and sound artist and musician Lutz Gallmeister that started last year. Each one of these tracks was inspired by an artwork depicting water. We both listened to these paintings and made a series of “Water Stories” around them. You can see all the images and stream the tracks on Bandcamp or Soundcloud. If you want to own it as part of your music library, you can buy it. But the best experience is to see it live! We’ll be performing this set at Vagabund Brauerei on Monday October 21st at TIME. If you can’t make this performance, you can stay tuned for further performances by following us on Instagram: @berlinnocturnes
This week Rina read
This week Rina read ‘Intermezzo’ by Sally Rooney. This book is an easy but heavy read. I mean if you read one Sally Rooney book you have read them all. But I did find myself wanting to finish the story to find out how it ended. She’s an excellent writer.
This week’s Inspiration
This week our inspiration is Word on the Street, an alt-comedy night featuring acts from the Global South at queer bar Tipsy Bear in Prenzlauer Berg. It’s a friendly venue, it features great acts, and the cosmopolitans are strong and sparkly.
Madhvi will be performing there as part of a South Asian collective of writers — the theme is erotic, so it’s gonna be hot and sexy. It’s a truly diverse, inspiring and fun evening and it gets packed people, so don’t miss your chance to be titillated! Grab your ticket now for the show on October 28th!
